Acting►
Our educational theater arts program is for students in Grades K-12. We offer a weekly acting class with parent observation weeks and performances to show family and friends what our students have been working on. Listed below is a description of things the students work on during class.
For Your Information
- Will my child be in a performance at the end of each session?
Yes, each child in the class will be a part of the performance, whether it be lip sync, puppet show, prose reading, storytelling, monologue or play, web show.
- Can the performance be videotaped?
Usually there are copyright laws prohibiting the taping of a performance. However, if the video is just for your viewing pleasure I will not stop you from taping the performance. We will also have them on youtube on a private site.
- Who is in charge?
I am Kathy Kas-Amby and I am the one in charge. I have been teaching theatre for many years at the high school, intermediate school, and elementary school levels. I totally enjoy sharing my knowledge of theatre with children. It's great to see them grow in confidence on stage and in everyday life.
- What does my child need to bring?
Occasionally I will ask the children to bring in a prop from home, i.e.: a favorite hat, a stuffed animal, a piece of clothing, maybe even an unusual object. Also, I would like the children to always bring their binder to class (will receive the first day). The main thing I want the children to bring is a positive working attitude with a smile.
- Can my child bring snacks to class?
If possible, I would prefer that all snacking take place before coming to class. The children can bring bottled water.
- What should my child wear?
In order for the children to get full benefit from the class, they should wear loose, comfortable clothing. Please, please, please--tennis shoes are the shoe of choice. Sandals and flip flops can lead to accidents.
- What will my child be learning?
There are so many facets to theatre and we only have one hour a week for classes. So our main focus will be on performance. The children will participate in various theatre games that help understand how to become a better performer. They will also learn the parts of the stage and stage movement as well as stage positions. Learning to work as a team is essential not only in sports but also in theatre.
