First Days at School ►
We are here to help make the start of the school year a happy transition and to assure you and your child that they are in a safe and nurturing setting. Here are some tips that may help this transition.
Many children adapt quickly to the routine. However, it is perfectly normal for some children to take several days, or even weeks, to adapt. We are here to help!
In the days before school starts, talk to your child or role play “Going to School” and let them know what is going to happen. Use the Daily Routine sheet provided to discuss the day to create excitement and enthusiasm.
We start each day with a Table Spot Activity. This is designed as a way to transition into our school day. Help your child put his/her things into their cubby and direct them to their table spot where an activity will be waiting for them!
You may find that a special “Goodbye” ritual works for you and your child—be creative! It can even start at home before school. Children thrive on predictability and routines.
Children are very perceptive and keenly aware of your emotions. Convey a positive attitude and be enthusiastic about the activities and learning that goes on at school. The shorter the transition, the easier it will be as the weeks progress at school.
Please build trust by saying “goodbye” and really meaning it. Once you leave, don’t stop. Follow through even if your child cries. Please be assured that your child will be gently taken care of by the teacher and staff.
Although it may seem easier, please don’t sneak away. One of the fears children have is that you may never return. Build trust by letting your child know that you are leaving and will return after school.
This program is very popular and will fill with a wait list. We start accepting registration for Fall on March 1st and Summer applicants are accepted February 1st.
